U.S. to Revive the Draft?
Serve Your Community and the Nation - Become a Selective Service System Local Board Member: "The Selective Service System wants to hear from men and women in the community who might be willing to serve as members of a local draft board."
So where is the U.S. media coverage on this story? I've done a quick, informal scan of the websites of some of the country's papers of record - NY Times, WashPost, LATimes, ChicagoTrib - nothing.
Here's a sampling of the foreign coverage:
US raises spectre of conscription [BBC]
Appeal for draft board volunteers revives memories of Vietnam era [The Guardian]
Will U.S. bring back the draft? [Toronto Star]

The posting is gone now, taken down after "several people called expressing concern."
Statements from the DoD say this isn't a precursor to reimposing the draft, just routinely filling positions. I'm disturbed at the Selective Service publicist's use of the phrase "kick it up a notch." Could we possibly kill that for good?
